Scratching my
head on this one... Recently acquired a
Grampian with a
Volvo Penta MD6A. The secondary
fuel filter is, as usual, a spin-on type mounted to the
engine. The primary is (apparently) the original CAV 296 filter/water separator with solid metal bowl. Unfortunately, it's the old canister type (ugh), so I plan to replace it with a
Racor unit.
When I went to look up micron ratings to order replacement filters, I couldn't find anything in the original
Volvo Engine Workbook. Checked what the PO had been using, and also found some postings by users, all with the same recommendation...10 micron primary and 10 micron secondary.
Huh? Isn't the secondary always supposed to be finer?? Seems like 10 microns is pretty coarse for a secondary. Anyone familiar with the old Volvo engines who might shed some light on this???
