Formosa 51, Change Engine

Hey,
1. need to change a Perkins 118 Hp. This has a weight of appr 650 kg.
What about settting in a Yanmar 140 Hp, with weight of appr 330 kg ?
Takes much less space, but higher Rpm so need to change gearbox as well.

2. What is the prosedure to take of the rudder on Formosa 51 ?

Hope for comments on these issues.

Brgds Jonny

Re: Formosa 51, change engine

Hi Johnny, welcome to the Forum.

There was a Formosa 51/Force 50 owners site at http://www.force50.org/forum/cmps_index.php

It's gone pair shaped at the moment but steps are underway to revive it with a mountain of experience and info there, so keep an eye on it.

A few members here have a lot of Formosa 51 knowledge so you might want to private message them. In particular Jack Tar and medicrene come to mind.

There is also a thread going here regarding the Formosa 51 used in the movie Captain Ron. It was started by 'Captain Bly', who has one and looks like he has been commissioned to redo 'Wanderer'.
He would probably be helpful too.
