Thumbs up existing tank

I have a 21 gallon metal diesel fuel tank which has been sitting empty for a very long time over two years when I bought the boat.

I have mounted a outboard motor on the boat. The orginal engine is long gone and I have no intention of repowering.

However I am thinking of using the existing fuel tank for the outboard no sense wasting the space. However my inclination is to get a new tank more like 12 gallon (plastic) and adapt it to the existing space.

Pro's and Con's welcome.

Where is the current tank for the outboard?
using a gasoline tank inside a boat brings on a new set of obstacles for safety.

The tank for the outboard is a normal 5 gallon portable. Just thought it would be simple to mount below deck in the spot where the existing tank was for the inboard.

A search of previous post shows a lot more involved. I am guessing the engine compartment had a blower system of some sort and a venting system for the gas tank.

Maybe it would be a safer bet using the area for water storage.
