Engine Winterizing

So soon I have to layup up my boat, which will be my first time. I've read all the procedures etc and they don't seem all that complex. But, in laying up the engine it seems you would best do that after the boat is on the stands as unless you are getting towed in you need the engine.

So, the questions is it Ok to run the engine while the boat is on the stands (using a freash water hook-up for cooling etc)?

I have done a number of boats on the hard.....you won't be running the engine that long. Make sure the jackstands are chained.

BUT>>>>>>check with the yard first....some have some quirky rules....

Does anyone have a suggestion for a system that let's you winterize your engine without disconnecting the hose from the thruhull?

one thing to remember is it could shake quite a bit on stands. The water has a dampening efect.
