Re: Engine suddenly drops rpm's

Check for air in the filter housing. Check that the oring seal is not pinched etc. Fill those housing full before sealing them. Better yet get the mechanic back and tell him to correct his problem.

Re: Engine suddenly drops rpm's

Thanks for all the replies. I called the mechanic who changed the oil and filters for me and he's going to take a look at the motor.

As for the fuel line pickup getting clogged by gunk, I had that problem when I first bought the boat. The engine would run fine at lower rpm's but stall and die at higher rpm's. I had the tank and fuel cleaned and the problem was solved.

This issue is a bit different. I can run the motor at full rpm, half throttle or anywhere in between just fine but after about 10 minutes the rpm's would drop but the motor never died. I could bring the rpm's back up with the throttle. This only lasted for a few seconds then the motor would run fine again. It's not the throttle linkage slipping as my throttle is quite tight.

Also.... when it dies try cracking the deck fill. If you hear a sucking sound your tank vent is clogged.

Re: Engine suddenly drops rpm's

An update.

The problem turned out to be a leaky pickup tube and an undersized fuel filter. The mechanic also rerouted the fuel supply and return lines for a more direct fuel flow along with a new IRacor 500 unit with 30 micron filter.

Re: Engine suddenly drops rpm's

Another update. Apparently the restricted fuel line caused the fuel pump to fail as well so now I have to replace it.

Check the packing nut. Water dripping? If it got hot it will slow the shaft and stop the water that lubricates it..
