Engine back flow?

The boat is on the hard from this past winter. Yesterday I rigged it so water flowed through the water intake seacock (via garden hose), started the engine and it ran fine. I let it run for 1/2 hour (+/-) to watch the temperature. It never overheated and ran fine, water came out the exhaust at a good flow and everything seemed fine. I shut it down and closed up the engine box. However, ever since yesterday, water has been coming back out through the seacock. Not gushing water, but the bottom paint is constantly wet. Can there be back flow out of the engine?

A good part of the exh system is above the seacock and water seeps back past the vanes in the pump slowly.

I would drain the exhaust system immediately. The waterlock muffler has a drain.

If the muffler is full, there is a possibility that there is water in the engine.
It is extremely dangerous to force water into the engine via a hose pipe. Always let the engine suck up the water from a bucket so as not to force too much water into the system. If it is overfull, you could have water in the one of the cylinders from an open exhaust valve.
