Diesel Tank Cleaning and Additives

Hey Puffcard,
You wrote of putting a copper tube down into the bottom of the tank and sucking out the majoity of the sludge. What did use for a pump. I think it would ruin my shop vac if I rigged that up.
Looking for a temporary easy way out,

Mine is on the slip and the tank is completely empty. I used a wet & dry Vac and the long hose on it to reach down to the bottom and suck out the sludge on the bottom. That's after I put 4 liters of degreaser concentrate in it.

My fuel polisher I got a 12v fuel pump off eBay which was about $100. Still going great.

Yeah, give it a go. From what I experienced I don't think you have much to loose and you may very well be pleasantly surprised. I was. And it's also not not expensive. Very little goes into the diesel.

The major downside I see is contaminating the clean fuel... and then spending all that cash on filtering back clean... 99g fuel+1g sludge+ Fuel Right= 100g dirty fuel... Two ways to get to the objective I suppose... The additive and polish method would keep me at the dock until I was satisfied...

Here's a pump I got off Amazon for a portable fuel polisher setup...

The pump you bought for fuel polishing only specifies a 30 minute duty cycle so I would be wary of continuous use.

The golden rod's are a decent filter, if you are going to use them, get the water-block elements.

Fuel Right will drop everything out of suspension and then your fuel polishing setup will clean up the sludge in record time. It does not mix everything up.

See attached photo that i took before and after treatment. This fuel was taken from a boat stacker fork-lift, how it was even operating is a mystery!
Fuel Right cleared the fuel in 7 days.
