Definitely fuel in the oil, smells of diesel and oil is thin

Any secrets I should know about to remove the pump? Shop manual shows it to be fairly simple process, just be careful with the shims!!!!!!!!!!!

I've had several perkins injector pumps leaking diesel internally at my shop recently. Change your oil and keep that engine for emergency. One of the leaking injection pumps turned into a runaway and that will definitely ruin your day.

Finally got the pump off the engine. The number two plunger fell out of it's barrel indicating that it was worn beyond tolerances. There is no seal per se, it is the fit of the plunger that serves as seal, fuel was in deed leaking around it and passing into the oil. Unfortunately the pin that locks/indexes the plunger has worn down. Prognosis is that the pin has wallowed out the hole in housing, it will require a NEW pump!!!!!!!! Gonna try another shop to see if they agree before dropping 750.00 for a new one compared to 400.00 for rebuild.

At least you were observant and caught it! Good work skipper. Just think it could've been $5000 for a rebuild or more for a new engine if it destroyed the block. Look at it that way and you just saved yourself $4250 at the very least!
