Diesel Engine Salvage

Just salvaged a sunk 30' sailboat. Pulled a good looking Yanmar 3YM30 out of it . Drained all the fluids and water out of it, removed all the bolt-on assemblies and pickeled it with diesel. Before adding the diesel to the crankcase I turned in over several times to purge all cylinders and the oil pump.
Is there any thing else I should do? I really don't want to pull the Head if I dont need to.
Not sure of the year either. Engine Number is E07050
I am looking for a source for a shop manual.

Captain Harry...How long was this good looking Yanmar under water?

There should be a lever over each cylinder to relieve the compression. If they were closed, you should be okay. If not, or if you live under a particularly unlucky moon and one of the intake valves was wide open, then at least fog the cylinders, or better yet flood the cylinders with diesel then fog them. Best to fog them regardless. I own a two cylinder version of this, and the sooner you fog it the better.

You definitely want to start it and run it, get it up to temperature for some time. Did water get into the valve cover?

Just Posted a few images of the salvage work in my album. It would only let me post 3. I'll have to try and figure out how to add more by joining a group. I have some good images of that "good looking engine".

The boat "Volcano" was under water for about 3 weeks before we got to her. She was out of the water for 3 days before I got the engine out, and two more before I pickeled it.

If I were me I'd pull that thing apart if you are looking to use it for moving a boat. What's the underwater pressure rating for that engine?

I can't even really speculate on where the water may have gotten to other than everywhere. Don't know much about that particular engine (nothing actually) but is it electronically controlled or mechanical? Did water get into the injection pump and lock it up? If you start it up and it is knocking like a MF have you already done some damage?

If you do start it up pull the glow plugs and/or injectors and crank it over then let it sit for a day or two then reassemble, crack all the injector lines till you get flow out of each one and that will give the cylinders time to purge most of the remaining water. It will also tell you if your IP is doing its job. then tighten the lines and pray. You need fuel (crack inj lines til it flows), compression (good battery to maintain min RPM for starting) and air (make sure intake isn't full of debris). If it is electronically controled there is alot more to it, (I don't think it is).
