Hello,
My new (to me)
boat, a
Morgan 462, has more and more complex systems than I've generally had to deal with before with, amongst other things, a
Westerbeke 82B
engine and a
Northern Lights 8kw
generator. While I'm comfortable doing basic things like
oil changes, I feel a bit out of my
depth when it comes to keeping both
engine and
generator operating in tip-top form.
This got me thinking that taking a general
diesel maintenance and troubleshooting class would be of great benefit, and would give me the knowledge and confidence to tackle most jobs on the engine, and, perhaps more importantly, know when to call in reinforcements ;-). Does anyone know of any training like that in the
Fort Lauderdale area? I know there are some more professionally-oriented courses available, but I don't think that these would be particularly helpful for a cruising sailor.
Alternatively, if anyone knows a good independent
diesel mechanic (in the same area) who does not mind teaching me the basics, and then being my go-to-guy for more complex issues, that could be a good option too.
Thanks,
David.
