The tear would be the cause and most likely you have solved the issue. As Pat has suggested, run it, drain it and fill and check again. Replace the filter again. Small cost in the bigger scheme of things.
P.S, the filter will not remove fuel. It is just that a sizable quantity of contaminated oil can be held in the filter and lines to and from (depending on engine, speaking genericly).

Is there a lack noticable lack pf power???

Black smoke indicates unburned fuel in the exhaust.

Since you replaced the diapghagm pump and you still have fuel in the oil thinned out oil.

There must also be another problem.

contaminated oil updates

The first oil analysis came back with pretty severe fuel dilution and after that we changed the fuel feed pump which had a slight tear in it.
The second report came back after the oil and filter change and out running the engine for 2 hours with no evidence of fuel but slight amount water.
This weekend we will run the engine under load and see what the 3rd and hopefully last oil analysis will show.
Thanks for all your help; hopefully the new pump solved the problem
