Re: Clogged pee hole

Just got back from the boat, we took the back plate off, there was sand and mud in the area, we cleaned it out the best we could, then we took off the lower unit and looked at the impeller, the impeller was in great shape with just normal signs of sand here and there around the lower unit. Still, the pee stream is weak, sprays, then goes to a dribble. Im not sure if we really did clean it out good enough, a local mechanic told us we could dilute antifreez while flushing it out to do a deep clean. It looks like the last owner made no effort to flush the engine out and alot of gunk has built up, thats all I can think. Any susgestions?

By the way, we only took off the back plate, not the side plate, as I think that would be the area where we can see close to the pee hole from within.

Re: Clogged pee hole

Any time you have such a golden opportunity to change the impellor, do so. Even if it is less than a year old. I always figure a year with any significant amount of use, or two years if seldom used, is the lifespan of an impellor. They are cheap. Compare the cost of an impellor to the cost of a new outboard, and the numbers will make sense.
