Cleaning intake filter Cummins 6BTA

Hi all, I have a couple of 370 Cummins 6BTA engines in our boat, they have the Walker Air step intake filters. Has anyone had any experience in cleaning these with the K&N filter cleaning kit?

Cheers James

Yes you can use the K&N kit. Don't use strong detergent like Super Clean. Over time overly strong detergents will dissolve the filter. Also don't substitute other oil. Walker and K&N oils are tacky to hold the dirt. I've found the Walker and K&N cleaner/oil to be similar, maybe from the same place.

Re: Cleaning intake filter Cummins 6BTA

Thank you for the reply, the reason I was asking is Cummins supplied the K&N kit when I ordered the Walker filter cleaning kit. The K&N kit is half the price of the Walker kit and I didn't want to risk anything for the sake of $26.

Cheers James

K&N make the filters for Walker Airsep. But forget about trying to buy replacements from K&N, they have an airtight supply deal.

Re: Cleaning intake filter Cummins 6BTA

Thanks for the heads up Pete, I removed the main air filters and the smaller ones on top and cleaned them back at home.
After cleaning them I am not sure if I should apply the red spray oil part on them. My thinking is there isn't any dust or dirt blowing around in the engine room, would this be an issue if I don't apply part B?
The filters are in fact K&N brand as pointed out by your good self Pete.

thank you James
