Carbon build up

The exhaust system on my 6 cylinder diesel engine has a build up of carbon l managed to loosen some with a old screw driver and a hammer but there is more carbon in the bend of the 3 inch metal part which is connected to the rubber exhaust pipe. Does anyone know how l can remove the carbon, thanking you.
