Capri 30 Outboard Bracket Installation

Hi!
I have a 1983 Catalina Capri 30 that used to have an inboard engine, but the previous owner took it away and installed a 10hp outboard on the transom. The bracket is weak, made for a 5hp max., so I'm going to install a new bigger bracket. The problem is that the existing bracket is attached on the transom's centerline, and I think that is wrong because the prop is getting all the turbulence from the keel and the spade rudder. I haven't feel any heavy cavitation from the prop, but All the capris 30 that came originally with an outboard has it on the starboard side of the transom. so what should I do??? Install the new one on the same place, or move it to one side on the transom???
All comments will be heavily appreciated!!!!!
Cheers from Costa Rica! Max

Re: Capri 30 outboard bracket installation

I'd mount it centreline.

Take a look at the Garelick 71090. It will take motors up to 169 pounds and you should be able to buy it for around $200.

Thumbs up Re: Capri 30 Outboard Bracket Installation

In reply to your question: My 1983 Capri 30' never had an inboard and the outboard mounting bracket is toward the starboard side on the transom. I have a 15 h.p. 2-cycle Evinrude attached to it. It works just fine as long as you give yourself lots of room to come to a stop, hopefully heading into the wind.

Re: Capri 30 Outboard Bracket Installation

Thanks, Bracket has already been installed towards the starboard side.. Work way better thatn the previous location at the center line... The boat can motor on a straight course with almost no deviation...
