Bronze hose barbs 3/8" NPT male x 5/8" hose

Hello.

Does anyone know where I might find bronze hose barbs with the above dimensions? I've googled quite a bit but unable to find them.

I'm not looking for the brass fittings that are everywhere.

A little while ago I needed similar with a 90 degree bend and I made them by drilling out, cutting and cutting a thread on larger bronze elbows, but I would prefer to buy them.

Thank you.

Fisheries Supply has a Groco bronze adapter from 1/2" pipe to 5/8" hose barb. You should be able to find a way to bush that to 3/8" without too much trouble.

GRO PTH-5062 PTH-5062 In Stock Straight Pipe to Hose Adapters, 1/2" or 5/8" Hose x 1/2" Pipe $5.39

Cheers!

Hi Steve.

Thank you for looking that up. I've seen those and that may be the solution. There are reducing bushings are available in bronze and 3/8" close nipples are available in red brass, which should be adequate. Doing it this way will require more space. I'll see if that would work.

Cheers.

I think you'll find that 5/8" id hose will fit nicely on a 3/8" pipe nipple. I'd use a 2" nipple and cut the threads off of one end so they don't cut the inside of the hose. If you're uncomfortable clamping on a smooth surface, file a groove into the nipple where the clamp will go.

If for an engine coolant circuit (usual use for 5/8 hose), you can use brass versus bronze which are very hard to find (though stainless is less hard to find).

Brass ones in several NPT sizes are usually at any US auto parts store because many heater hoses are 5/8.

You are looking for a "bronze insert adapter" 5/8" hose x 1/2" NPT.

BRONZE HOSE ADAPTOR 1/2" NPT TO 5/8" HOSE Binnacle.com

Groco also sell them along with their raw water filters.

This is for the salt water pump. I would rather not use brass.

I have a Volvo Penta MD11-D with a Johnson F35B-9 pump with clamped fittings. I don't like those fittings and I'm replacing the pump body with one that has 3/8" NPTF fittings (pump model #10-35157-6, body is part #01-35096-2).

3/8" water pump">raw water pump?? Are you sure it's not 1/2" NPT?

I suspect you have a Oberdorfer pump with 3/8NPT fittings like I do. I too needed a 3/8NPT x 5/8 hose adapter for the inlet side. I never did find them. Down Wind Marine in San Diego (downwindmarine.com) was the best source for bronze fittings I found. They have a 1/2"NPT x 5/8 hoes adapter plus a 3/8NPT x 1/2NPT bell reducer coupling + a close 3/8 nipple. Researching with the manufacturers I found not one that made a 3/8NPT x 5/8Hose adapter. Down Wind also carried a Marelon 3/8 NPT x 1/2" hose adapter I needed for the outlet side on my set up. Someone previously had used, in my pump, brass fittings which had "de=zinc'd" disintegrated.

Thank you. I actually do have a centrifugal Oberdorfer pump to circulate coolant, but this is for the Johnson impeller pump I described.

Isn't it odd that this is so hard to find? My heat exchanger also has 3/8" threads. For the heat exchanger, I used bronze hose fittings that had a 90 degree elbow and enough room to cut part off and cut a 3/8" thread on them. They also had to be drilled out because the passage was too narrow.

A manufacturer should pick this up.
