Re: Blue Water Engine Spares Recommendations

I have following spares for my Yanmar:
Filters oil + fuel (More fuel filters in case of contaminated fuel)
Biocide
Impellers
Spare Alternator
Complete water pump">raw water pump
Belts
Stop solenoid
Starter
Changed all rubber hoses and kept the old ones as spare.
Seals for the end caps on the heat exchanger
My exhaust elbow is bronze and will last for ever.
If standard Yanmar carry a spare.
Fuel hoses.

Hose clamps
Degreaser
Spare spray paint
Spill mats
Gasket cement- very helpful to get gaskets seated in the right place.
assume you have the workshop manual and full parts catalogue?

Re: Blue Water Engine Spares Recommendations

The only failures I have experienced on my older Perkins 4-154 during 3000 hours of operation have been leaky raw water pump seals (three times), corroded and leaking exhaust water injection elbow and leaky fuel injection pump. So I have a spare injection pump, spare elbow and complete set of parts for raw water pump and have rebuilt that myself several times.

You have an almost new engine so I wouldn't think you'll have leakage (fuel or water) problems, but it's a good idea to visually inspect your engine while it is running, every few hours.

Re: Blue Water Engine Spares Recommendations

After cruising Asia, the Medd, and now the Caribb, we've encountered several boats with engine issues.....and most can be traced back to bad fuel! A fuel polisher system, and several fuel filter changes would be high on my list, along with a set of new injectors and washers. I'd also suggest anything that could easily be unbolted from the engine (fresh water pump, salt water pump, starter, altnr, impellers, etc. And a spare exhaust elbow. We also carry an assortment of the little copper washers used in the fuel system, so IF we need to dis-assemble part of the fuel system we can put it back together! . The already-mentioned ends for the heat exchanges is also a really good idea. And lots of good-quality(not the perforated ones) hose clamps.
