I think modern diesels are much better now than back in 1976. They are quieter, burn cleaner, are more efficient and overall better engines. I think having the new technology is worth the price versus rebuilding a 32 year old diesel. That's just my opinion.

Ford Diesel have probably the longest period of operation between major rebuilds.

They might smoke a bit...but they are built like tanks.
