Its amazing how times have changed nobody would think of putting any thing but a 45/50 hp in a boat 35/40ft now days. My 45ft 20 ton
steel ketch has the original 35hp
Yanmar fitted in 1984 3500hrs and it ticks like a clock. The great thing is that I can do the same days sail as most similar boats ( some much younger) guess it makes you put more into the sail trim and look harder at the
weather ect when you cant just fire up the iron sail and
power away, sailors don't make the effort I seem to see a lot of twin hulls doing this. Don't get me wrong the old but wonderful 35 does the job and I have her and prop tweeked so can sit on 5 knots if the going is not too bad.
In the 80s the
motor was to get in and out of an anchorage not to travel with like a
power boat !!! maybe some
motor sailing but I am still doing the sail thing as much as I can and loving it. Last year 7 months out on the hook sailing most days
diesel cost for the year was $Au485.00 you cant beat that !!!!! ( thanks to sun and wind) electricity and
propulsion.
