Antifreeze Out of the Exhaust

So I'm heading over to the haul out today and the alarm goes off on the Stb engine. Just before shutting it down I look at/for water coming out the exhaust and notice that it is antifreeze green.
I suspect the heat exchanger bit the dust. Any other sugestions?

Volvo MD 2030C with about 3600 hours on it.
As always your help is appreciated.

When that happens the first and most likely thing you look for is a blown head gasket ..a pain in the rear but not a ton of money as long as you didn't overheat the engine and warp the face of the head .

Probably the transfer tubes in the heat exchanger--if you're lucky.

I disagree..... HE failures are much more common than a blown head gasket/cracked head.... UNLESS there was a prior overheat situation. Another indicator pointing to the HE failing is that blown head gaskets, manifolds, turbo failures will result in STEAM in the exhaust, not liquid!

Either way that engine has a problem. I would look at the heat exchanger first, but if the head gasket has blown check the oil! If the oil looks normal then it's definately the heat exchanger. If the oil is foamy or abnormal, then you will know.

Oil looks normal. No signs of water having been there (milky look or foam, no condensation on the oil filler cap)

No previous high temp issues and it was definately green fluid coming out. I little steam but that is to be expected when the air temp is 6 Celcius. No smell of antifreeze in the exhaust either.

I had a rad shop pressure test the heat exchanger raw water bundle and it checked out ok. The tech there said the usual cause is a bad rubber boot connection or loose clamps on the boot. I have the exhaust elbow on order as it was very corroded.
Re-assembeling tomorrow. Will advise. Wish me luck

be careful reinstalling that core. The large holes point DOWN

UPDATE - Reassembled everything this morning. Filled the resevoir with antifreeze. Fired it up and watched as all the antifreeze drained out the exhaust
Found a rad pressure tester and tried to build pressure but could hear the air escaping within the resevoir / heat exchanger housing. Pulled the entire housing off and with the help of a couple of people we we able to plug all the outlets and pressure test again and there it was. Some small holes had corroded through low on the resevoir at the exhaust mainfold just before the exhaust elbow. Note to self: next time take the entire resevoir/heat exchanger unit to be tested not just the tube bundle. Its just six more bolts and 2 more hoses to undo.

Volvo should be painted gold not green ...$1000 for a new resevoir housing
