Alternator belt news.

Gates has started selling severe duty V belts. No green stripe, they are all green, the whole belt. I was told they have been using this kind of belt on power equipment and now they are selling them in automotive sizes.

Do you know if they are available in matched pairs? Despite all the sales hype about tighter tolerances nothing beats two belts from the same batch.

One thing for sure, the green coloring should make life a little harder on the counterfeiters. Cheaper for them to just counterfeit "black" brands.

Re: Alternator belt news.

They have had those green fabric impregnated belts forever... They are tougher, but not as grippy in my experience. Which may be fine in some applications! Those the ones you mean?

No, these are all dark green on the top. They have Kevlar in them. I think they have been using aramids in things like rock crusher drive belts.
