Alternatives to expensive Yanmar fuel filter for 4JH3-HTE

The engine-mounted filter on our 4JH3-HTE is an expensive unit. The cheapest I have ever found it was in Athens for about 35 euros (from memory). I found a filter on eBay by Mann that says is an equivalent replacement.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/MANN-KRAFTSTOFF-FILTER-WK-815-x

Has anyone ever used these filters and care to share their experience? Or perhaps has tried another supplier? Thanks!

Yanmar don't manufacture their own filters, they simply charge a premium for others to make them on their behalf. If a reputable after market brand fits then go for it. Mann are a good brand.

Do you happen to know equivalent part numbers for the oil filter on the Yanmar 4JH3 and 4JH4s?

Thanks. Worked like a charm. For others interested, Wix 51334 is equivalent to the 4JH4 Yanmar oil filter 129150-35170

No problem I can synpathize about the cost of yanmar spares! I bought 1 Yanmar OEM raw water impeller and it cost $120, then I found out that there is a Volvo impeller that is a direct fit at 1/3 the cost ( go figure Volvo parts being economical!)

Re: Alternatives to expensive Yanmar fuel filter for 4JH3-HTE

I needed a new water pump">raw water pump for my 3GM30 and was quoted $850 for the Yanmar replacement which is an impeller pump flange mounted on a flat, steel plate bracket. Bought the same pump but with footed mountings and made a new bracket from a piece of alloy angle for about $250.

Had a similar experience with the alternator which I replaced with a bigger Bosch for about 1/4 the cost.

Horrified at the quote for two new thrust washers in the gearbox I reversed the old ones and reassembled the gearbox and had no more problems with it.

Yanmar spares are a real rip off.

Re: Alternatives to expensive Yanmar fuel filter for 4JH3-HTE

Thanks everyone. What got me started on this thread was that I had never heard of Mann filters and wanted to know if anyone had experience with them. Now that I know that Wix also makes these filters, this is an even better answer since I have been very satisfied with Wix is the past.

Since I'm in the US for Christmas, I'll order a few.

Cheers!

Steve

Here's a list, by Manufacturer, of the in-kind, replacement filters for the 4JH3-HTE engine mounted Fuel and Oil Filters. Some are available only in other countries, but many in the Good 'Ole USA. Hope this helps you in your travels.

Please don’t use Fram. Anything else just about. If you want to know why just look for Fram on YouTube. And when you see what’s inside the you will just about fall over.

Just get rid of the water content alarm you don’t need and go with the standard JH3 non turbo filter!

If anyone has had the opportunity to walk through a major filter makers factory, the difference is the labeling.

I agree , get rid of the water alarm version - very awkward when changing - and if you ever have water in the system , the switch in the filter needs to be manually reset .
