I have an old marinised Peugeot XDP90 (indenor)
diesel engine in my yacht. It is 2.1 litres and has done around 2200 Hrs according to the hour meter but I don't know if this is accurate, the
engine is original and was installed on launch in 1998 according to the paperwork. I believe it's
head and
injector pump has been replaced as the ones fitted do not match the engine colour and spare ones came with the
boat that do.
It is using approximately a pint of
oil for every 10 Hours running, is that acceptable?
It has no external
oil leaks, starts easily first time every time and does not smoke.
However it will only rev to 2200
rpm in ahead (2800rpm in reverse, have taken it to 3000 in neutral but that's the limit for the impeller).
The throttle keeps going so I know it is not due to a control restriction but may be an injector adjustment issue.
Also if you continue to advance the throttle past 2150/2200
rpm the
exhaust cooling water exiting turns black or appears to have black fluid mixed in with it but I do not rev the engine above 2000 rpm which equates to about 6.5 knots on flattish
water.
It has been like this since I bought it and about a years use.
Is my engine about to blow?
Cheers
