ABYC fuel pickup

All... we have a fiberglass tank with existing stainless pickup system. I want to install a home made fuel polishing system but there is no room on the existing stainless plate to put another pickup.

What are the ABYC guidelines for installing a new pickup through the fiberglass top? Do I have to use stainless steel or is another material suitable?

I plan on just using a regular fuel/water filter and a basically small fuel pump on a switch that I can run a few times a week.

Re: ABYC fuel pickup

I don't know about ABYC standards.
Brass or aluminum would work fine. If you buy a ready made pickup tube it will come with a screen. Remove the screen. You want the dirt going to your filter not staying in the tank.

If you tank doesn't have a nice big clean out in the top, this is a good opportunity to install one.
