4JHE oil filter

Anybody got a common part number for the oil filter for the above engine? Like a Purolator number etc?
I'm looking to buy an 87 IP 38 that has a 44 HP Yanmar Diesel, I assume it's a 4JHE, but if someone can confirm that as well as the filter part number that would be a help. I'm a few hundred miles away form the boat.
I'm planning on doing the engine survey myself as I know a little about Diesels, of course part of the inspection is doing an oil change and cutting open the old filter, but I'll need to take a filter with me of course.

Re: 4JHE oil filter

Just grab a Yanmar filter for that engine. Your local dealer can sell you one or online at Sailboat Supplies, Engine Parts and Boat Parts

You should replace the existing filter with at least the same brand or better. Using a Yanmar filter will cover that.

Gotta have one this weekend though.
Purolator, Mobile One and K&N filters are as good as they come.
Engine oil capacity?

Could not tell you oil capacity. Do a Google search or call Toad or Mack Boring.

Toad is in the Midwest and Mack Boring is in the east. Either should be able to get you a filter by this weekend. If this is the 4JH-2E, you should be able to find a filter locally as this is a very common engine. Where are you located?

I have a 4JH2E. Oil capacity is about 5 1/2 qts in my installation. I use a Fram 3593A oil filter.

Re: 4JHE oil filter

Rodney, Tim Thanks guys. I'm landlocked, Albany Ga., nothing but Bass and Ski boats around here so likelihood of finding the correct Yanmar brand filter is minimal. Of course Yanmar doesn't make filters, but I don't who makes them. Often OEM filters aren't that good

Re: 4JHE oil filter

The Purolater 3593 filter is ccmmon to a Subaru. I bought a yanmar filter and it had a 20 stamped into the base. The Subrau filter also has a 20 stamped into the base is is physically the exact same size. The only difference was the color and the price.
