Re: 4JH4AE vs 4JH5E

Blue Stocking:
The prop is a new style from Baumann Propellers here in Houston, TX. One of the guys I spoke to there told me that the owner of the company was a sailor and didn't like what was available on the market so they designed their own. The prop has a little extra curve at the tip of the blade. Kind of reminds me of the little "winglettes" on the tip of airplane winds these days. I went from a 20" to an 18". My fuel economy is a LOT better and my speed through the water is better. They told me that the boat would back a lot better but that part doesn't seem accurate for my boat. Callisto is going to pull to port no matter what I do.

Re: 4JH4AE vs 4JH5E

The prices for Yanmar parts quoted here seem low compared to what I'm paying in St. Maarten. The injectors are around $220, and a new starter was $850.

I'm putting new Flexofold prop's on next week. If I got 1/2 of the performance boost Callisto did I'd be ecstatic.

Callisto, I'll be in SXM for the next two weeks. Are you heading down?

I should add that the alternator on my Audi went out yesterday. I got a quote to replace it today - $900 and if it needs an idler arm, add another $200. It's all relative.

1) That includes labor - not just parts.

2) The idler should be about $40. That's what they are on BMWs and MBs.

3) Audi is part of VW AG. Their parts are THE most expensive of "regular car" parts - up to and including BMW and Mercedes.

4) You probably went to the dealer. We have 5 MB vehicles, and I wouldn't think of spending that much on an alternator. Maybe $250, including labor.

Let me know which Audi year/model you have. I'm sure I can get you a good deal from our indy on both the alternator and the idler pulley.

Just sayin'...
