4107 Perkins

On my Massey Ferguson 130 tractor with Perkins engine, allegedly the 4107, a previous mechanic told me that the engine on my tractor had DRY sleeves, not the wet sleeves noted to be on the early 4107's.

Were there any '07's with dry sleeves made, or is this engine really an '08? When told the engine had dry sleeves, i was thrown into disarray and dishevelment, how could this be so?

I do not believe this engine was transplanted into the tractor at any time, the original engine is still there, to my estimation.

find engine number and look it up with perkins..btw, if the drop number on the block, the raised letters, have 82 in em,it is before 1986 and perkins wont acknowledge it.. dont ask how i know this...lol....they are behind the starter, btw....the large raised numbers. if there are indented numbers on the block it is newer than 1982.

Re: 4107 Perkins

Biggest difference between 4.107 and 4.108 (other than 1 cubic inch displacement) was the change from wet to dry sleeves. Ergo, dry sleeves = 4.108.....

Most external parts are interchangeable between models. Internal parts not so much. Good news is 4.108 castings (eg: pistons, cranks, rods, etc) are still available, while production of 4.107 castings ceased in the mid 90s.

As far as I am concerned, the discovery of having a 4.108 instead of a 4.107 is good news. Easy and reasonably inexpensive to rebuild, and no worries about the wet sleeve O ring lands warping and allowing coolant into the crankcase.

many 4-108 parts in mexico, as buses, forklifts and tractors still use the 4-108.

In the US, probably 20% of the reefer trailers you hear running in the truck stops are using a 4.108 still... They're cranky, they eat oil, they are a bear to bleed, and they run forever.
