Re: 4-108 Fuel Shutoff

The Perkins 4-108 engine I worked on had a push button to shut down the engine. It only required electrical power to shut down the engine and only for as long as you held in the button. I know this as a fact because the ground wire to the solenoid broke and we had to manually activate the solenoid to shut the engine down.

Re: 4-108 Fuel Shutoff

You can wire it either way. Solenoid should not be energized when engine is not running. I bought a 4 position tractor switch and installed it on my engine, westerbeke 40.

here are key switch positions and state of the solenoid and fuel shutoff valve

position______12V solenoid______fuel valve
thermostart___energized________open
off__________de-energized______closed
run__________energized________open
start________energized_________open

Re: 4-108 Fuel Shutoff

What I found in aiding the job of bleeding is an inline automotive fuel pump. Works great. Even before normal run up, I turn it on while holding the heater button for 1 minute. Fires right up.
