1964 Allied Seawind rain in fuel tank.

So i am a newer owner of a very pretty ketch rigged Allied Seawind 64' i had her put on the hard after a grand summer and early fall upon which i had to leave her alone for a few weeks. When my mechanic visited the boat to winterize her engine he found her fuel cap removed a bit of diesel siphoned out. We are both unsure of how long the cap had been removed, or how much rain may have gotten in the tank.

Has anybody ever had any luck removing water from the bottom of a diesel tank?

Just stick a piece if tubing attached to a pump to the bottom of the tank. All the water will be in the bottom of the tank. Pump out till you get fuel.

I had to do this years ago every week due to a leaky tank.

If you're fuel tank has inspection plates, pull them and siphon/pump the water off the bottom. If not, pull the tank sender and pump from there. You probably won't get it all, but can improve your chances by tipping the boat in a travelift.
