We're full time cruising with a Black Lab... great dogs, good personality, but they also shed... We've seen all sorts of breeds out on the water.. I'd look for a breed that fits your fancy- and they'll adapt. While we're dog lovers, we're now faced with having to adopt out our canine crew member before we cross the Pacific, but fortunately he will be going to a good home. Like other proud pet owners, our 4-legged crew member has his own page on our website at Untitled Page under crew and family, and finally- Buddy's page.

We have a Chesapeake Bay Retiriever. He can get up and down the companionway laddr and has rn of the boat from the bow to the stern. He loves to take up the entire seat in the cockpit but is willing to share as long as he can put his head on your lap.

what breed do you sail with?
We have to Cavalier King Charles aboard our 40ft Caliber LRC. We live aboard and they adjusted to the boat instantly. IN bad weather or were unable to go ashore both of the girls use wee wee pads and are very good on the boat
when were underway we found to keep them crated as they tend to sleep thru the passages, the storms we went thru didnt bother them either this breed is not afriad of much even storms or lightning doesnt affect them If your considering a breed cavaliers are loyal friendly easy to care for, a tiny bit of grooming and love the water and boats and are very mindful of what is going on kathleen s/v Legacy at port in oriental nc |

CBR Chesapeake Bay Retriever !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sheds alot, but never ever a better boat dog! Loves small spaces, calms right down in his kennel, the back of the quarterberth. Water dog at it's finest. Loyal, one person dog though. I own Joe. Of Dustinretrievers.com I retired him 2 years ago. He is on Cabelas web site in the 'Retriever Fever' series of training video's. I need to get one of his puppies soon before he gets too old to breed. I love my CBR! |
