| I had a friend in university that had a couple long haired guinea pigs. He used to let them out to run around his room. There long hair picked up all the dust like a mop and he never needed to vacuum. Maybe you could use a couple to swab the deck, polish the brass…

1 - they will need a EU pet passport, 2- if run away, will chew on your electrical cables and die electrocuted. PS In the EU all pets are supposed to have a pfd and you must allow for pets in your liferaft choice (if your liferaft is a 4 person one and you have more than 2 hamsters, you will have to upgrade the liferaft or eat one of them before pushing the red button on your EPIRB (except in Russia, where the red button is reserved for other purposes). Otherwise nice pets. b. |

So we had a dog aboard for 10 years and he died just last year. Our son was pretty sad about not having a pet so for some dumb reason I let him talk me in to a guinea pig. oy. We've had the guinea pig aboard for a year now. Here are the pros and cons as I see them: PRO +they are low maintenance (in that you can ignore them and they don't seem to mind, but we try to keep ours socialized) +they don't live long +you can eat them if you run out of provisions +you can feed them fruit veggie scraps, like a little garbage disposal CONS -they stink (esp in the small confines of a boat) -they are boring -you have to clean the cage pretty much every 2-3 days. It's a REAL pain, and you'd have to find the shavings/ fluff wherever you cruise and carry LOTS of it. It sucks. -they need something to chew on constantly because their front teeth keep growing and they chew to keep them trim -they stink (this can't be emphasized enough A dog is more satisfying for the work involved. Cats too. Or just fill the need to ahve something cute & cuddly with a baby why don't ya Mark? ![]() Seriously, no rodents. schoonerdog's wife - cindy
