FYI on doggie raincoats

Hi all, just wanted to share a little useful info for those of you with dogs, especially hairy ones. We nearly gave up our search of a quality doggie raincoat and indeed actually purchased our own supplies to make one. But then we found a great raincoat from the people at Outward Hound. Found it in a great pet store in Prince Rupert, B.C. We have a Samoyed who wears a size large and she LOVES it because it keeps her relatively dry. Sure we still have to dry off her belly, head and feet, but that's small compared to the rest of her. BTW, we use a chamois camp TOWL to dry her.

For those of you with furry friends and traveling to or in rainy climes, get your pooch a raincoat! And be sure the store will allow you to try it on your dog before you commit.

our dog was a black labrador, and one quick shake and he was 95% dry.

We bought one of Outward Hound's little PFCs for our 11 lb. Jack Russell Terrierist. Great company to do business with.

Dog can swim great, by the way, doesnt need the PFD. He just shows an amazing lack of judgement as to where a good spot to swim might be.

Ah you jest, but if you had a furry Samoyed you would understand. The raincoat makes it so she can sit out in the rain, which she much prefers to being stuck down below. She truly loves her raincoat. And it means all we have to dry is her head...though the thing actually does have a semi-functional hood, believe it or not. Otherwise she's wet for a good 24 hours.

Yes, it sounds silly but if you have a heavy-coated dog you'll be so glad to have a raincoat!

we have the coats from Land's End for our italian greyhounds, they would love somedthing warm AND dry, i will have to check them out.

My wife and I are determined to give a good try with our 7 year old Gorghi. He has been on the old boat just a few times. He isn't exactly happy yet but seems to settle in under the helm seat while sailing. My wife tried to find life jackets at various stores so she could try them on him but all the stores seems totally out of stock. We would buy it on line any way.

Not sure about rain coats. Our last Corghi "Bright Eyes" was a small female and she didn't want anything to do with wearing clothes. My wife moved up to Minneapolis from Texas with her and got her all sorts of winter clothes and booties. That dog could take her clothes pretty fast. She handled the snow just fine without them.

We have bought two of the Outward Hound PFCs, and they work great. Dog doesnt mind them at all. In fact he gets excited when he sees the life jacket cause he knows he's going offshore, not just to the beach.

Our dog is about 12 lbs, and we can lift him easily like a briefcase by the handle on the jacket. Really handy for those times we have to fish him out of the drink. Which is often.

We searched around, and have had good luck ordering online from Pet Guys

These jackets cost up to $30 in pet stores...$10 online! four sizes.
