Tao, I think you are correct on the Alpha Dog. We have since cleaned the area and have a piece of astro turff and rubbed it in the back yard of the house to give it some of here scent. I the dog loves the boat and hangs out on the foredeck. I have heard it may be that this is like a den and she will not "mark" too close. My Vet buddy says it will likely sort itself out and she will find a spot if we just stop trying.

I don't think we will have a problem getting Mac to do his business we have him trained now to go in a designated spot in our back yard (we have a small yard and didn't want him going on the stone- we set up the area with pea gravel and boxed it in - he uses it all the time so we plan to do a similar thing on the boat a box filled with easily replacable small stones...kinda like a litter box but a bit bigger. We tried those piddle pads when he was little but all he wanted to do was eat them.

Love the pictures looks like the true dog days of summer!

I think I’ve come up with a solution to the “aggressive” dog problem; which also addresses illegal immigration and hurricane preparedness.
1. Dig a moat the length of the Mexican border.
2. Send the dirt to New Orleans, to raise the level of the levies.
3. Put the dogs in the moat along the Mexican border.

Ah, Gord, how could a myoptic Canuck ever come up with a dog solution that misses out on the great export market for selling all those problem dogs to China and Korea as prime meat? Meat in especially hard to find in North Korea. Dog a delicacy.

No need to dig moats, we should all be sending out garbage to NOLA so they can use it as landfill. Pile it up about 100' tall, rebuild on top....Oh, wait a minute, that's how Seattle and Chicago pretty much raised themselves up by the bootstraps to solve problems that NOLA won't do for themselves.

I thought my suggestions took a fairly far-sighted (not near-sighted) & broad view, simultaneously addressing three problems.

Jumping back onto the shedding brush issue, check out the "Furminator". Even though he looks short haired, Toby is a double coated Swiss Mountain dog, with plenty of hair to go around for all nooks and crannies of the boat.

It's a surgical steel comb that gets the undercoat. Toby hates the "slicker" type brushes, but loves the Furminator - with liberal treats applied.

In pet shops the Furminator goes for around $50 - but you can get it on Ebay much cheaper. The larger size works for us - and gets mountains of hair.

We use a zoom groom on Mac that works great and it is rubber so he can chew it and it floats - he is a boxer so he is shorthaired but he still sheds quite a bit...

and He wouldn't make good fill for a moat or for eating he is too skinny and all muscle....

Sorry for the delay in responding. Whilst laughing, I bit my tongue, which left me speechless. I highly recommend that all remove their tongues from cheek, lest the same fate befall them.

We have two dogs a Norfolk Terrier who is happy getting his feet wet only and a Cortian (so described as his dad was an Alastian {GSD} and his mum was a Corgi - don't laugh, you will see him in the picture) who loves any amount of water and is a strong swimmer - BUT - he must still wear his life jacket incase he gets tired or knocked over by accident, also they are easily retrievable by the handles.
Apart from the life jackets they have simple lifelines to keep them tied up when we are busy and cannot keep an eye on them ie rough weather, reefing etc.
