Home-Made Play-Dough and Other Activities

I have just spent a fun 2 hours making Play-Dough with my 2 and 3 year olds. have made enough to keep them busy for hours and hours.

This is the first time i have done this after getting the 'how to' from a friend.
and i realised how cheaply and easily you can make a load of it. compared to the price of buying the branded versions.

I also noticed how it just disolves in water so easy to clean and dispose of (totally natural ingredients)

Anyway if anyone is interested it goes as follows.

I have just made 3 batches each filling a 1 Litre storage pot.
using 1 kg plain flour, 140g pot of cream of tarter powder. salt, oil, water and food colouring.

Meathod.

Get a large mixing bowl (microwavable)

Mix : 2 Cups Plain flour
1 cup salt
2 cups water
2 tablespoon veg oil
4 tablespoons Cream of Tarter Powder
1/2 little bottle of food colouring

Cover the bowl with a plate and Put in microwave for 5 minutes, ( i found that taking it out and mixing it every minute or so stopped too much crusting round the edges!!!)

let it cool and start playing!!!!!!

Home made play dough never gets boring and tends to stay to stay fresh for a LONG time if you keep it in a zip lock bag or tupperware type container. My son is 6 and still gets all excited when we make a new batch. Also makes a great gift for other kids.

Also you can do it stovetop with propane if you don't have a microwave aboard.

Here is a link to when we made some aboard with photos

Another fun craft you can do while cruising is casting animals tracks. You just need standard plaster of paris (mix with warm water) and you can keep all of the mysterious prints you find in the sand.
