Z-Drives and Cats

Hello,

Has anyone got any info on the 20 year old Volvo Z-drives like what are the highest Kw it can handle.

What sort of maintenance plan was still available on these Z-Drives?

I'll appreciate all the help I can get.

Thanks

Niel

Re: Z-Drives and Cats

What Volvo calls a "Z-Drive" is really a type of outdrive or sterndrive and used mostly on powerboats. Do you instead mean a saildrive - which is commonly found on sailboats and looks similar to an outboard lower unit?

Hi Mark,

Agreed it was mostly used on power boats somehow these powerhouses get fitted to single motor sailing catamarans more frequently than ever.

No its not a sail drive I am referring to.

Thanks

Niel

Until just a couple years ago, I was still using a 1974 Volvo Aquamatic 100, extended leg, rated for 50 hp. STill had all the original parts - just keep clean oil in it. Is 40 years old now. So I cannot tell you about a young old like you are asking.
