Yacht master Ocean courses MCA approved

I¨m looking for School which provide me with the certificate and yes i aware it is an expensive course and i wont need it for sailing and it needs to be MCA approved

but training and education in safety plus knowledge is important to me so if you can give me any recommendation i¨m all open locations is not so important just a good reputation

I would love if there was a school do some of the training on a Catamaran.
I have only found 3 schools

· One Stop Sailing
· All abroad Sailing Academy
· Commodore yachting

Location can be any where in the world from July

Re: Yacht master Ocean courses

Do you mean the RYA or the IYT yacht master?
Both can be endorsed by the MCA to become a commercial qualification.

Cornish Cruising in the uk does the fast track course, I can recommend them, I have have sat on three YM exam as crew for some of their students

The ocean course is purely a theory course.

To Acquire commercial status you will need the Offshore ticket first

The YM coastal and various other course completion certificates can be MCA endorsed for red flagged ( uk ) registered vessels , but it's only the YM offshore and ocean that can be endorsed with the STCW 95 for work on foreign vessels as I under stand it.

As far as cats are concerned, you may be able to talk to the schools as the fast track normally involves bare boat charter for a few weeks with you as captain/ skip once the first few courses are completed, but I don't know of any schools that predominantly teach on cats, normally to expensive for schools to operate. IMO you will be able to handle a cat if you do the YM training as the training is fairly intense and the cats are more forgiving/ easier to handle so after a few weeks and a bit of reading I don't think being taught on one will mater

When you say convert , do you mean to motor from sailing or do you just mean that you won't need the exam for sailing as your employment as in convert/ endorse it via MCA

If I get the YM Ocean I can convert this in to a Danish approved yacht master certificate so I will be allowed to sail under Danish flag since I take in Denmark I will around 2 years for it based on limitations of schools in Denmark

I think that maybe you are confusing what an Ocean ticket is.
The Ocean certificate doesn't require you to attend a course as it can easily be done online and is very cheap to do. There is a requirement that you have to have done a certain amount of sea miles and taken sextant readings on the trips.
Nothing needs to be approved by the MCA unless you want to use it for commercial purposes at some stage.

ps Get in quick if that is your intention as it won't be long before the MCA will not endorse RYA certificates imho.

Not at all.
I have been told this by someone at the MCA that they are concerned about people using the RYA/IYT tickets as a back way to a commercial ticket and that the RYA standard is far to low.
At the moment you can skipper a vessel with a commercially endorsed YM ticket once you have added STCW etc. In the rest of Europe the insurance companies are starting to insist that skippers have a "proper" masters ticket.
Probably no bad thing tbh.

I must agree that the exams I sat in on were on 40' cruisers, a bit different than handling a 24 m 200t vessel as the endorsement allows ...... I think?
All the guys that past I felt deserved the result 3 passed 2 failed but whether they had the experience for the commercial side was not proven on a practical level , the theory was tight and I think probably would stand up.
The MCA examiner was pretty tough on the guy that was hoping to endorse the others were just for personal achievement and didn't I feel get such a grilling but I was not on there shoulder all the time!

Re: Yacht master Ocean courses MCA approved

And as for the course completion endorsements , I think MCA should exam.... not just sign the paper work
I do think there is a conflict of interests when the RYA school has to fail or pass knowing that the candidate will probably come back to them for additional courses or not as the case may be
But then, the MCA do pop in the odd 'canidate' as a mole on the odd course as do the RYA it's self

Re: Yacht master Ocean courses MCA approved

The IYT Master of Yachts Unlimited (Ocean) is a professional certificate approved by the MCA and needs no additional endorsement, this should not be confused by a recreational certificate of competence that would need commercially endorsing, ie RYA Yachtmaster Offshore or Ocean.

details here Master of Yachts Unlimited (Power or Sail) | Professional | Courses | IYT Worldwide

Thanks.
You learn something every day.

Does that mean you wouldn't need STCW95 HELM and GMDSS ?
