Not sure.

Not much info has leaked out on the circumstances surrounding that tragedy.

Its also a tragedy that some want to stifle discussion on these incidents , limiting the lessons that can be learned.

Yes, I've certainly learned something from these discussions:

That some people (using the term loosely) are so pathetic they take obvious delight in these incidents.

Ann, the photos I saw of it when first righted in Bermagui did not show mast on deck. I suspect this photo is somewhere else before.

Not that I have seen. I have also seen nothing that indicates why it sank. No reefs to hit there, from memory weather was not that bad. I would expect there would be a Coroner's Inquest into the incident and deaths.

But it is the new paint job.
Have they dropped a rig since then?

Re: XL 2 Capsized Cat Found?

I zoomed in on that pic and I'll bet a beer that it is the salvaged boat. The hatch into the hull on the starboard side looks damaged and it does look different from the port side anyway. There is a hazy dark spot that could be damaged topsides right by that same hatch. Also there is an obvious stantion just aft of the port daggerboard but the starboard side is missing there. It looks like there is a short piece where it broke off and the stantion is just hanging by the lifeline. I think the mast has some scrapes on it too.
