San Giorgio Di Nogaro. Three marinas and dry storage to choose from and relatively inexpensive.

Re: Wintering a cat in or near Venice

The Venice area lost most of the bigger yards to the real estate boom, but the Casey Key Marina (by Blackburn Point Bridge) has alongside slips that would berth a cat. It is well protected (I keep my boat there).

The Crow's Nest on Venice Inlet as well as Marker 4 (which has been re-named lately and I don't know the new name) just south both have cat slips as well, but both are on the ICW and require a lot of fendering.

Re: Wintering a cat in or near Venice

Venice, Italy?

Directly in Venice or in/near the Lagoon or in the Veneto or upper Adriatic? In water or on the hard?

We will leave our L450 from August in the water in St Elena Marina in Venice, as we have done before. From there one can walk into the town and to the Gardino Biennale and one is immediately on Lido. Infrastructure in this Marina is not so developed. For us the location counts, because we use our boat in winter as a holiday home in Venice. Directly opposite is the Marina Vento di Venezia on Certosa. With shipyard operation etc. (to which there are also critical voices). With places on the hard - but I do not know if the crane is big enough for Cats. (Do not forget: in venice you can not drive to the marina by car)

Re: Wintering a cat in or near Venice

Hi Greg. We have just spent the last 18 months at Porto san Rocco Marina in Muggia just outside Trieste. It's 1h 30mins drive from Venice Airport and 1h 20mins drive from Ljubljana Airport in Slovenia. Trieste has an airport which is about 30 mins from the Marina but is only serviced from certain European destinations. We have a Fountaine Pajot Saba 50 catamaran. We left PsR last Wednesday and are cruising south through Croatia, Montenegro and Greece until mid October this year and Cyclades and Turkey next year and will winter back at PsR next year winter. It's a fantastic Marina - part of Camper and Nicholson. Friendly staff who speak English well. Lots of easy boat type assistance in and around Trieste and Muggia. PsR also have a boat yard where you can winter on the hard. Contact Giulia via email Giulia.Breveglieri@portosanrocco.it she was our contact and is fantastic at helping. Let me know if you need any further information. Cheers Nic www.ladyroslyn.com or FB Catamaran Lady Roslyn

Re: Wintering a cat in or near Venice

Thanks so much for that comprehensive reply, I'll follow up..
We started in Preveza three seasons ago and went south through the Ionion around the Penpolesis to Crete, on to Southern Turkey and wintered the boat in Kos, Greece. The next season we pinballed our way up the west coast of Turkey and the adjacent Greek Islands, the Dardanelles to Istanbul, the Bosphorus to the Blacks Sea. Then west through Limnos and on to Skiathos and wintered the boat in Lavrio, an hour south of Athens. Brilliant. From there, a few of the Cyclades before heading through the Corinth Canal and back to the start. Over 160 harbours, walls, moorings and anchorages etc.
Then north through Albania, Montenegro to Split. The whole lot is recorded in our blog at The Summer Amy. Where to go, where to avoid with loads of pictures. It should be of some assistance if you plan on a similar route.
Thanks again,
Regards
Greg
