Windows for Jaguar 36 Catamaran

Replacement windows wanted for catamaran- either lexan or acrylic; still deciding since 2 of the windows have a curve.
Looking for someone in south Florida, either east or west coast of Florida near Ft Lauderdale or Ft Meyers to make and install. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

These guys did the windows for Manta Catamarans and really know their stuff. They are located in Palm Beach, FL.

Windows for Jaguar/Wildcat

I replaced windows on my 2001 Wildcat earlier this year and they came out great. Sold the boat in Feb 09. New owners sailed her down to Grenada. Inquired about the windows last week and they said they're perfect and no leaks. I used polycarbonate (grey tint Macrolon, a brand of polycarb). It's definitely a labor intensive process requiring two people. Attached are a few photos. Send me a PM if interested in more info. I'm in Melbourne, Florida.

I seem to remember that jaguarcat 36 is only a couple of years old. Why would the windows need replacing?

Kevin, I saw your project first hand and it came out great.

Don't think they've built the Jaguar since early '06. My guess, someone cleaned them with a solution that wasn't too friendly to polycarbonate and didn't protect them. Mine were super fogged out when I bought my Wildcat. They looked awesome when replaced. Heard they're still looking great.

Definitely fogged as you call it. Will send pm and thank you for pictures. Still have tons of questions and will be passing your area (Melbourne) on our way down the ICW,

Click on the username and a menu will pop up.

If you decide on polycarbonate be sure to use one with a scratch/UV coating like Marguard (Lexan brand).

Best of luck,
Mike

What I used was Macralon by Bayer Labs. I heard that Dow has the patent on polycarbonate but they license the formula to a couple other companies, i.e., Bayer Labs.

We do a lot of cat windows, based at Lauderdale Marine Centre, Ft. Lauderdale.
We also put new windows in Bumfuzzle when Pat and Ali brought her back to us to sell.

Bumfuzzle Windows

I must of saw the windows in Bumfuzzle before your replacement. I remember they had the grey covers on the outside but when you pulled the covers off I noticed that the windows were painted black on the inside. Just heard that Bumfuzzle has been spotted cruising the Caribbean - down Grenada way - with a new name.

Re: Windows for Jaguar 36 Catamaran

This looks like a very old thread, I have an 2005 Jaguar 36 in Rio Dulce, Guat., and it seems that the extreme heat has caused thermal stresses that have caused cracks to form in most of the large salon windows, radiating inwards from the edges. Apparently the previous owner has replaced them once before, so I can't say what the existing material is. Clear dark tint is all I can comment on. I've since put a sun/rain cover on the boat and now am looking to source materials and skilled labour to do a professional repair. Anyone out there have suggestions? Plan A is to ship materials from stateside to Guat. and have experienced (??!!) labour cut and install them somewhere nearby. Plan B is to drill out the root of the cracks and silicone them for water seal until a more permanent fix can be made. Any leads to materials suppliers (macralon?) or contractors capable of such repairs in the Guatemala or Belize would be appreciated. Eric

Re: Windows for Jaguar 36 Catamaran

Bumfuzzle around here is like Godwins law!

Godwin's law - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It states: "As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1."[2][3] In other words, Godwin observed that, given enough time, in any online discussion—regardless of topic or scope—someone inevitably criticizes some point made in the discussion by comparing it to beliefs held by Hitler and the Nazis.

or in this case, the Bumfuzzles!
