I did walk by one or two.

Hopefully, no one took my comments as negative toward Seawind catamarans.

If we're ever in the same anchorage come on over, the ice maker is almost always full and there is plenty of room to enjoy the sun or the shade.

Personally, I wouldn't have purchased a Seawind at half the price I paid for our Lagoon 450. Lucky Larry
How can you make a statement like that, if you've never been on one? OK, even a Seawind 1250 won't have the space of a Lagoon 450, but not worth half the price?

To cross an ocean I know which I'd choose...

Re: Why. Used seawind is so much higher price than lagoon

I didn't say that the Seawind was not "worth" half the price. I said I wouldn't have purchased it at half the price.

It might be worth twice as much to someone who narrows their choices and decided a Seawind is the boat for them.

ALL boats are worth whatever a seller can get a buyer to pay for them.

I wouldn't have bought a brand new Gunboat for half the price either unless it was to sell it at a huge profit since that was not the boat we were looking for.

That is why I recommended that the OP look around until they decide what they want to do with their boat, then sail and spend time on the ones they think they might want to own before they worry about if their list prices are more or less than other boats.

I have nothing against Seawind catamarans.

There a lot of dreamers out there that think that things in life don't depreciate as they get older. I have some sad news for them...

I dont understand the constant price comparisons between the 2 brands when they are so different, the volume and style are not even close.

Its horses for courses, Ford v's toyota whatever. Very different beasts.

Re: Why. Used seawind is so much higher price than lagoon

OK, first post here, but I couldn't resist chiming in. I am looking for a boat and have researched this topic a lot.

Taxes in Australia are ridiculously high, so everything is more expensive there. EVERYTHING. Minimum wages are high too. Most Seawinds were made in Australia (I have heard production has since moved elsewhere), so they are high cost because all that extra cost in labor and taxes add up. Some fine boats made in South Africa (like Leopards) are cheaper not because they are worse boats, but because labor there is much cheaper.

So used Seawinds cost more because new ones cost more. It's as simple as that.

Also, when pricing Seawinds, make sure you are reading US dollars, not Australian dollars, because they are not the same thing. Some people selling used ones might also make that mistake too, and think the AUS$ price corresponds to a US$ price.

Lets see, narrow hulls, fat hulls, heavy v's not as heavy. Outboards v's inboards on some. More volume- a lot less volume. Thousands made v's few hundred(maybe). How is that to get things started?

Yacht World has approximately 350 listed for sale for $110K to $2.6M. That is probably about 15% of the quantity built.

Seawind appears to have produced around 500 catamarans. YachtWorld has 33 of them listed for $2,200 up to $634K.

There are a lot of Lagoon catamarans that come out of the charter fleet when they are 5 years old.

I think within last 6 months the 100th 1160 was delivered. Much lower supply wheras Lagoon has probably built over 1000 of most models.

That is hardly a secret. Seawinds are produced in Ho Chi Minh City, by many of the same production team that made them in Wooloongong. The factory is, in part, the Corsair Trimaran factory.

Who cares where they are made as long as the quality is there.

Many many German cars are not built in Germany, dont hear too many commenting on that front.

As Rohan says high taxes, high labour costs , strong Aussie dollar ,although a great yacht doesn't help Seawind in the slightess and so to be competitive have moved to Veitnam. Lagoon $100,000 less at boat show compared to two years ago.

Actually far less. The total output is just over 2200 boats and that's for all years and models combined. The L380 has about 700 units which is the most popular boat. See post 46.
