Re: Why Mono Sailors Hate Cats: The Bare Truth is Shocking!

I think this is a great idea for a thread. I imagine there are quite a few newbies on here that have little experience with Cats, that are trying to decide between a Cat and what they know... Mono's.
I know I am.
Looking forward to following the thread.
Thanks, Steady!

Good Humor and Good Will Mends Rifts

This photo I am starting this thread with is posted to add a little levity to the collegial atmosphere that can get heated when Mono vs. Multi is discussed. I am not starting this thread to raise hackles or cause disharmony. I am not a Troll. Instead, I think good humor can bring us to realize things that are difficult to express and good images or photos can illustrate that without any words at all.

So, I suggest we start a visual dialog. One where pictures tell the story.

My Suggestion:
To this thread I suggest adding more photos of what Multihull sailors know makes Catamarans (or any multi) so vexing and enviable for Mono sailors. They could be photos of speed, of comfort, of spacious interiors, of cockpit parties, etc.

But, I also suggest we keep this thread one full of POSITIVE aspects of multi hull boats and not get into heated arguments about things. Simply post a photo to illustrate what you see as a positive aspect. It could be your own boat, or another.

I will start with a simple photo, but I hope you will join in, and please stay in a spirit of humor and good will, with some more photos that show CF Members what causes this divide.

My POV? My Goal?
I would love to own a Multihull, or a Monohull and will make myself happily available to sail on either as crew whenever asked (seriously). In fact, one of my goals for 2017 is to get as much time on cats as possible while sailing anywhere in the world. In fact, I am devoting a full year (2017) or more to sailing (full time) on OPB and am available on short notice to assist owners. I hope to do so in the Caribbean, Pacific, Atlantic and on a wide variety of boats. It is my goal to learn firsthand from CF Members, both mono and multi owners, what you love about your boats and what makes them special to you. I plan to make it a Win+Win for all I meet.

My Experience with Multis?
While most of my sailing over 40 years has been done on Monohulls, some of my most fun memories were while sailing on catamarans. And one of the most impressive things I saw was when a Trimaran blasted past me going twice as fast as my fast monohull. Multis have always held a special interest for me, as I suspect they may for many Mono sailors.
I had a Piver with a red, white and blue 130 genny, highly visible. I would get a kid out of leaving monos, after they deployed their balloons. call me sadistic.

The Ladies LOVE Cats

These same ladies never wanted to sail in my Mono's

Who would have guessed.

I learned a hard lesson over many years.

As a general statement I think it's pretty close to the truth, women do have a lot of sway when choosing the boat type and lots of them like Cats for a variety of reasons that are hard to argue with from a woman's perspective.

It is a irrespective which boat, cat or mono. The common thread is that they are both sailed by people who have a common objective , that is to enjoy the freedom of sailing the oceans.

Yes, well. At least the catamaran you pictured is still floating. Suggest you don't share with her the photo below. You may end up having to drop the $$$ on a multihull that won't sink if you want to keep her sailing. Hahaha

Re: Why Mono Sailors Hate Cats: The Bare Truth is Shocking!

I love older cats... but can't afford them. Newer cats are uglier & uglier, squarish, high on water etc... Any offshore sailor with heavy weather experience knows that cats are more dangerous than a well built monohull as cats are far more stable upside down than right side up ! About your picture with hordes of bimbos on a cat, I'm sure teenagers will love it. As far as I'm concerned one great woman (Brain, body & appetite) is plenty enough for true happiness

I guess the insurance companies haven't talked to these heavy weather experienced sailors yet!

What's even more FASCINATING is when your shopping for a boat, the MAN will look at any boat bed and say "yah that works".

A WOMAN will look at a boat bed and if it has walls right up-to the side of the bed she will say, NO I do not like this boat.
All along your wondering why she hates that boat.

Then she shows you a picture of a boat bed she wants.......
Why is that a big deal you say.
She says, because I can not make that other bed with the walls up-to the sides of the bed.

OMG......

Again Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus.
