Re: Why Mono Sailors Hate Cats: The Bare Truth is Shocking!

I certainly don't hate cats and am aware of their alleged advantages.. one of which is not heeling. I don't mind heeling at all, I actually like it... not excessive heeling but sailing without heeling feels odd to me.

More real estate is fine... especially if you need it. I could use a bit more but no need for more than 2 cabins ever. I don't want or need my boat to be a party boat or a boatel of sorts.

I find most cats pretty ugly. But aesthetics are a personal matter.

I got mono. Damn near killed me. Cat scratch fever too. Once you get 'em, they are always in your blood. That's what the doc told me.

Thanks for the break. Only fun post in pages. I was really enjoying the light hearted pics of people enjoying their boats. My fave, the house of cards in the North Pacific.

Thanks seaskip,

Exactly! The North Pacific!

Had an old home-built glass-over-plywood cat a long time ago; about 29' x 14'. I offered to tow it away from this guy's dock and he said sure. It was a mess.

The 'Escape code' was a liveaboard project moored in the skinny off the ICW just north of Clearwater, Fl., much to the displeasure of the local landed gentry. A couple of friends and I cleaned it up, made some repairs, stood some salvaged rigging, painted it and tricked it out on the cheap. We shared in the work, the pleasure of sailing it, the parties when we had it and the profits when we let it go.

Working on a bucking project cat in the Florida summer is bad enough, but we started to spill our Captain Morgan at the sundowners! So we lashed some galvanized pipe abeam, both fore and aft. Hung 5 gal buckets of water, rims just above the waterline, about 6' beyond the hulls to limit pitch and yaw. Priorities of youth, right?

We were behind a breakwater and it helped a lot. But the big boy's wakes still gave us hell even with our jury-rigged 'stabilizers'. I don't think we would ever have tried a house of cards though. That was amazing!

In Monohulls or cats? Sailing girls are even better than bikini passengers

And I like them even more when they beat the boys

Saloon with a View

Naturally catamaran buyers buy them for various reasons which have been discussed in this forum and some in this thread.

But, one VISUAL reason is hard to overlook: The VIEW from the Saloon.

Yes, some catamarans DO look like a condo inside. But, that may be just what the Admiral ordered.

Howdy Catamaran Sailors!

I started this topic to share the good things about Catamarans in a good spirited, good will, good humor (the title is tongue-in-cheek) sort of way. I also intended the topic to have photos that illustrate why Catamarans are so popular and so nice for cruising. I hope you will participate by adding some photos that show the "benefits" of catamarans. Those photos can be fun ones, or of the interior, or your customization of your boat, or of your boat in a picturesque location or lagoon, or of you enjoying the cockpit, or of bathing beauties on the trampoline.

Show Your Catamaran Sailing or Its Best Features!

Show why YOU love YOUR catamaran!

Now that the summer sailing season has started in the Northern Hemisphere, I think it is time for this thread to show some Catamarans in the act of sailing! Or of Cat owners enjoying the spaciousness of a cat cockpit, deck, trampoline, or saloon.

Please post a photo of YOUR boat sailing, or of your favorite Catamaran model sailing or of your catamaran's "space."

Whether it is your own Pride and Joy, or your Dream Boat, let's show the CF members what makes the Catamarans so appealing and so special.

Perhaps you have a photo of your Catamaran gunkholing in the Chesapeake. Or near shore in only 4 feet of water in the Bahamas or the Florida Keys. Or maybe you own a catamaran and you have a photo of your boat pulled up to a beach (something I admire). Show us.

Let's put in some more photos to illustrate the Catamaran world here in this thread.

IF you don't have a photo of your own boat sailing, then do a Google image search and find a sistership. Or post a photo of another Catamaran you admire.

And, if you have been doing some cruising on your Catamaran, take a photo from your blog or own site and share it here, with some comments about what you liked about your boat on your cruise. Tell others about YOUR boat or your model.

Let's see some sails! Let's see some boats! Show us what makes you love your cat.

Not fun exactly, but handy to be able to give the boat a polish without having to slip.

That's what I'm talking about!

Thanks for adding your photos to this discussion. It is a very good example of one of the benefits of super shallow draft boats like cats and trimarans, (and some monos too).

Your boat looks great!

Re: Why Mono Sailors Hate Cats: The Bare Truth is Shocking!

So, I read the title and thought "what I hate about cats is changing the litterbox", but I'm at a loss as to why that would be a bigger issue on a mono.

Does the heeling increase the spillage?
