First off, I like mono's too. I have a Centaur for coastal work. I love it.

I truly believe a purchase of a vessel should be made with the 'purpose' in mind. For this reason, I have no preference for mono or tri or cat other than for the purpose it is intended for.

If I was going to do Ocean crossings a lot, I would, for my own peace of mind, make a choice between larger Cats 40ft up, and monohulls that would both have to be worked on to upgrade systems that suited my sensibilities for the crossing. Much smaller Cats have done it and much smaller boats, yet I think if I were doing it, the choice would be mine to make and comfort on either vessel is paramount.

My coastal vessel is about 26ft long, has forward cabin, heads, saloon, (salon) galley and a couple of quarter berths at the back. Inboard diesel.
REALLY comfortable for me solo. I love it.

Only, its a tad slow. I dont mind but everytime I go out the tad gets taddier. As long as Im in the laid back frame of mind nothing matters, not time or distance. But sometimes.....................

Ive been adjusting a work schedule that is stupid busy and thinking what I would replace the vessel with for a little more speed. My time schedule has been pushed back a few months due to the recession for finishing full time work, but thats OK...... I have the Centaur for my water fix.

My buddy boatman61 has a lot of experience with British built boats from the 60s on, and give it me straight........ for example, he turned me on to a Cat that is SMALLER than my boat but internally is larger. My first question to him was how it performed. This is a typical boatie answer.

with that OB you can do fast coastal hops when its calm.. she'll do 8kts+ in small sea's.. and when wind is aft of 80* she'll sail just fine.. F7 would be her max before laying a drogue

Im looking at the marque to change later in the Spring.

Its stable, twice as fast as the centaur, narrow width, seafriendly, has been sailed around the world and is comfortable. Just needs a shower plumbed in.

Nice. Generally small cat's don't look so good - headroom + bridgedeck clearance = tall, which always looks better on a longer boat.

But that doesn't look bad at all.

What is it? Looks a bit like a Jarcat. Is it? JARCAT Trailer Sailer Catamarans

Home built.
Usually Glass over ply.
This one is glass over foam.

The original specs state it was designed to do 6 knots cruising (confirmed) and 10 knots at speed using an 8 horse extra long shaft. Only uses a little petrol (gas) when cruising.

Boatie gave his info independently so I assuming the speed is pretty accurate. Good fast hull shape.

We've owned quite a few cruising cats and it's been my experience that under power it's hard to move much over hull speed. Doesn't mean it can't be done though. Keep her way light Weavis!

I dont pack much, Just me, essentials food water and fuel. All low in the middle of the boat as best as.
The designer is Ernie Diamond who liked speed.
I know the Hirondelles motor at 6 or 7 knots.

The builders have done a nice job!

Foam instead of ply should be a worthwhile weight saving.

This is not the Cat I will be getting for the Med, unless it is something I fall in love with and want as well

This is just a speedier version of my coastal life for now.

I was looking HARD at a lagoon 38. Its a fabulous vessel and if that was my only choice weavis would be happy. Only I was not grabbed by it, not in the emotional core. I dont need to be but it sure helps.
