Who is the manufacturer of this cat?

I've seen this boat sitting at dock for about 2 years now. I am looking for a deal and am thinking about approaching the owner. Before I do that I need ya'lls help identifying it so I can do my homework.

Thanks for your help!

Who made this and what year do you think it is?

Re: Who is the manufacturer of this cat?

I think this is a Voyage 44 built in Cape Town, South Africa. Good cruising boats with a low bridgedeck clearance though.

Re: Who is the manufacturer of this cat?

Agree. Voyage is what I thought too. Not sure of length but was thinking closer to 50. I couldn't see any mfg markings on the vessel. She is rotting away. Lines are all gone. But it may be right for me...

What made you think it's a 44?

and thanks!

Re: Who is the manufacturer of this cat?

The V50 had 5 or 6 portlights on the side of each hull like this one. I think the 440s had only 3. Google image these and you will see what I mean.

Re: Who is the manufacturer of this cat?

I've got it. Found an old ad for the vessels name, "pau hana".

It's a 1996 Mayotte 47.

Here is the advert:
http://apbico.com/websites/others/sa...s/pauhana.html

That's an OLD ad. It has not been touched in years. Vegetable garden underneath. Falling apart aside a dock. Sad condition.

OK, now, what's it worth, as is?

Re: Who is the manufacturer of this cat?

Its a 1997 Voyage Mayotte 47, which was later stretched to the Voyage 500.
I had a Voyage 440 and now have a 500 so am pretty familiar with the lineage.

I'm guessing the motors need work. If it's got that much growth then possibly the zincs haven't been changed and that will cause the prop/shaft or saildrive to literally dissolve away. Can you swim over there and look underneath? Sails and rigging are questionable as is everything. A good used one is north of $200K. This one around $50k to $100K but you could spend a fair amount restoring her.

Go for it, was a FP 43 in St Aug a few years back in similar situation. I asked the marina, they said "not for sale". Someone got ahold of the owners and bought it for about 1/2 price a few months later.

Re: Who is the manufacturer of this cat?

Oh, I think it's safe to say the zincs are gone. The lines are rotted to the point they're falling apart. It's really in terrible condition. I'm fairly certain it has not been touched in 2-3 years. It's name is "Pau Hana" and it is marked Honolulu as it's home port. It's in Wilmington, NC now.

I'm going to contact the property owner where it's docked and inquire.

I've looked but can't dig anything up on the web. Maybe ya'll will have more luck?

Thanks for the help!

Re: Who is the manufacturer of this cat?

USCG #: 1053394

Hull #: VVM005I096

Last owner (or current owner of record?) SEALINK CHARTERS INC

Owners since 2004

"Sealink Charters" is registered in mailbox #253 in a mailroom in Wilmington, NC.

I think you will have better luck with the property owner, he might know who pays him his monthly dockage (or not...)

good luck. Remember, nothing is more expensive than a cheap catamaran...

Please tell me how you found that info? Is it something only a broker can access or can I search it?

Thanks,
S

Re: Who is the manufacturer of this cat?

Either you, if you are experienced, or a professional surveyor should check the boat thoroughly. The zincs are peanuts worth as opposed to hull delamination or rotten engine...

Re: Who is the manufacturer of this cat?

I know enough to know anything I ever buy will get surveyed. But thanks for reinforcing that point. And I also understand the phrase, "nothing is more expensive than a cheap cat". Got it!!!

BUT, from what I've read this brand of vessel is pretty well built. I'm going to talk to the owner, fwiw.

I'm just in the "looking" stage, nothing more (well ok, looking and talking). Looking helps me learn. So far I know I want a cat, 45ft or more, gen, a/c, galley up, water maker, 2 freezer, something I can handle by myself.

What's the deal with folks saying, "nothing over 24ft beam"? Travel lifts capacity, I'm guessing? Thoughts on this??

I'm very mechanically inclined. I've recently rebuilt a 40' RV, (rear engine 6v92 Detroit, 2 a/c, 2 furnace, 1250Ah house battery system, 7kw gen set, solar trickle, and many many other systems similar to what's found on boats. I do not plan to do all of the work myself but I do plan to be part of all the work. I want every wire labeled on both ends. I want clean, neat, accessible work. I will be intimately familiar with every component on the vessel so that I can deal with it WHEN it breaks.

Read, plan, read, plan, read, plan, talk, plan, talk, plan, plan, do.

That's the plan.

Re: Who is the manufacturer of this cat?

Mayotte's are great cats. We sailed ours in the Caribbean and Pacific selling her in 2003.
There is one currently for sale :"Swish" Southern Trades Y/S asking $300K
The anode on the sail drive is circular and slips over the drive shaft before the propeller. From memory there is a pencil zinc close to the water pump on the yanmar.
Good luck
