What's most tiresome with this forum

Are the constant threads championing the wonders of catamarans. Seems like owners of such aren't happy unless everyone else wants one.

As someone hoping to make the decision one day between mono and cat, I find such threads pretty interesting.

The tiresome ones, for me, are the threads dedicated purely to complaining about what other people are talking about.

Ironically, replies wherein people throw shade at the people who are complaining about what others choose to champion... fascinating.

All good fun

One hull
Two hull
Red hull
Blue hull

Electric
Yuloh
Gas or
Diesel

This one has a trampoline
This one sails with a lean
Say! what a lot of boats I've seen.

Yes, some have one, and some have two
Some are old, and some are new

Some are fast
And some are slow
And some have all mod-cons below

Why are they
Split ones and twos?
I don't care
Just go and cruise

At some you smile
with some you laugh
And that one has a wooden gaff

From there to here, from here to there
The boats we love are everywhere.

WHAT!!!

I have been following the thread on Cyclone Debbie, zip to do with the mono/multi carry on and it degrades into a multi/mono bashing exercise culminating with some person who owns a Catalina 22 Capri posting based on their obviously extensive multi-hull knowledge.

Quote "The platform between the hulls act as a wing. It's like a jet taking off in heavy winds. We have all seen what happens to race cars when they get air under them-------they "take off". Just another disadvantage of the multi hull I suppose."

Now how can you construe that as championing the wonders of catamarans.

My response was

"That's it, I have seen the light, I give up and will sell my 21 ton fully loaded cruising cat as I just can not risk the chance of it getting airborne.

What size dyneema line would I require to tether it down, in the event of an airborne episode?

As my sometimes sparing partner 44'cruisingcat would say "You CANNOT be serious!"

These guys seem to work there arses and wallets off to get them to fly"

Followed by an appropriate picture.

I doubt that guy owns any boat.
Certainly knows nothing about weather.

Re: What's most tiresome with this forum

While on the subject of tiresome, what I find most tiresome on this forum is people offering uneducated opinion as though it were fact.

But don't you DARE contradict them!

OK, perhaps this was meant to be funny, but you do realize you’ve posted this in the “Multihull Sailboats” sub-forum?

I really haven’t noticed, or been bothered by, what you apparently observer. I’m a mono-hull owner. If it’s a multi-hull discussion, why would I even bother to click in?

I’m always amused at these kinds of gripes; people complaining about a certain type of posts (usually newbie queries). No one forces anyone to read anything here, let alone respond. You don’t like them? Don’t click. You can even ignore whole threads so you never have to see them.

I think that example is a great one Paul.

On the Debbie thread...I posted about a small cat landing on top of a sport fish and ask what I thought was a constructive question whether that was a real concern and perhaps someone would come up with practical added security.

The next thread took it down to a multi bashing level
This angered me and I criticised the poster for multi bashing and my response was deleted by the Moderators.

I have now unsubscribed from that thread and thinking of taking a long break from CF.

Shame really as I learn lots from people like you and other multi owners.

On hindsight, wish I had started a new thread that discussed
'Preparing for a Storm in Old Marinas'

I have no agenda other than to learn and share boating knowledge and camaraderie.... Just wish all CF members could get back to that mindset.

I understand your frustration, crazy unnecessary stuff. My concern is quality contributors such as your self get driven away. How many like you are no longer here?
