What is this??

Hi folks,
can you help me identificate this cat? Broker said it's a 45' 1991 manta, but i discovered that manta only got into business in 1993, never build a 45' and in any case the design is very different compared to mantas. Thislooks more as an amateur Crowther.....opinions?
Cheers

Reminds me of a Fountaine Pajot Louisiane. One of the first sets of boats built by them.
Still your boat looks bigger.....

The size is totally different: 37 of the FP vs the 45 of this one.

But do you agree that it's not a Manta?
I am adding a few more pictures hoping that they can help out to identify the cat:

Thanx

Re: What is this??

Does the broker not have any documentation? If someone is going to buy it, there needs to be some sort of official paperwork.

Also, looking at other pictures of it online, one picture taken from beneath the stern shows "East Berlin" written on the aft crossbeam; the other does not, and they seem to be otherwise identical pictures. What's up with that?

Re: What is this??

It's not a made in Florida Manta. All Mantas had a self tacking jib and this one doesn't. But other companies and individuals used the name Manta like the Prout Manta and there's an F44 Manta on YW and I remember a few others as well.

Several years ago there was a thread on a larger one off custom that was built at the Manta factory but I don't think that's it.

Re: What is this??

Thank you for your time and answers.
I asked the broker about the builder but he didn't answer this specific question, just got a bunch of new pictures instead. So was just trying to investigate because i dont' remember i have ever seen this model.
I suspect that it might be a one off or more probably an amateur build.
......maybe i'd better skip this one......
cheers

Re: What is this??

Why would you skip it? A smarter thing would be to evaluate the actual boat.

As this was an essentially one off design the dimensions may vary from boat to boat.

The most famous variant of this design was FALLADO , Helmuts world voyaging
catamaran sans mini keels, infact later in life sans all leeway reducing appendages..

XOXOXO

Not fond of amateur/one off constructions. Even less when we are talking of this vintage boats and unknown designers.

Thank you very much.
At the end looks like it's as suspected.
Anyway, today the broker returned to me and said that the boat was build in Qatar in 1991 with hand laid trechnique. 3 boats were built.
Only wonder why they picked up the "manta" name.....

Re: What is this??

The one thing readily apparent is it's heavy. Look at all that bottom paint. Lots of wetted surface area. Sterns are likely underwater too.
However, many one offs are significantly better built than production boats. Maybe not this one.

Re: What is this??

Indeed very heavy, you can tell by the materials that have been chosen.
I agree that some one offs might be better than production boats, but that is something that must be carefully verified.
Beside that, considering price/production/age i think that it's a boat that when in future i'll decide to sell, it will be very difficult to unload.
