Re: What is it?
Does such a thing work on a multihull? I've had trouble on light monohulls as the vane senses only apparent wind - which swings forward with any speed increase, back in a lull. Snake wakes, uncontrolled gybes, unintentional heaving-to. Madness. Slow monohulls, overloaded multihulls maybe, can work well though.

Looks more like some model of a WindPilot.
Windvanes don't work so well on faster cats but results would depend on the boat.

Thanks to everyone else for the answers and discussion. I'm having a hard time seeing how this works but it must work for them or they wouldn't have it.

Re: What is it ?
I have owned my Westerly for five years and am need of help. I have been trying to replace a rubber knob that screws into the overhead in fornt of a port light. Its purpose is to keep the window open, the edges are soft enough to hold the open port quite effectively. I would very much appreciated anyone telling me what it is called and where I could purchase some. I tried the Westerly owners forum but no joy there.
Thanks.

Au contraire, Dave.
Lots of people get some bug in their bonnet and spend thousands of dollars on some usless bit of kit. Why does he need a wind vane when he has solar and a wind generator?
The cruisers VHF radio nets in the Caribbean are full of stuff that people are trying to redeem a few cents. Wind vanes, wind generators and anchors are the biggies.
Its interesting to listen to to work out what doesn't get offered... thats the stuff that works.
