Nice point. And the only good reason I can see for a single person to be looking at boats with three double berths and two heads occupying half or more of the available cubic.

the company that purchased PDQ is not building right now due to problems with the government and facilties, customers with deposits have been offered full refunds. Antares has nice layout , but not the modern hull layup that the French use. Not a great sailing boat, but better than the Lagoon 44. Note the height of main boom from the water on the Lagoon. Try going to windward.

Also the last price i saw for finished Antares 44 was $ 850K not 700K. For $700K you can buy a well equipped Fountaine pajot 48 Salina, delivered to the states, or a 48 Kynsna that is available with a custom interior layout. For the $850K you could buy a Prout 50 and get a lot more boat with better equippment.

if you would consider used , you could buy a very nice privelege 469 and get a great boat.

Dear Charter Magic,

I am not sure who your source is or if you are just making this up, however, Antares has not refunded a single deposit, has a two year solid build schedule and is currently delivering boats without any issues with local governments.

Also, you have clearly never sailed aboard an Antares or you would have never made your uneducated comments about windward performance.

To suggest buying a well equipped FP 48 as opposed to an Antares is much like suggesting a fully equipped Kia as a better value than a Mercedes.

I am an Antares 44i owner. Our boat is being built. I can speak directly, as an owner and someone who has been to Argentina and recently helped commission hull 4432 (2 weeks ago) that you are incorrect in your statements. I would also seriously question the credibility of your comments regarding other boats given the "accuracy" of your comments about Antares.

We looked at the L440 (did NOT like the fly bridge), Privilege (very nice boat), SF50, Catana, etc. -- and selected the 44i because it was the best overall balance for us as a liveaboard cruising cat.

Everyone has different needs, budgets, etc and that is why there are a number of viable boats for different folks.

There is a dramatic difference in the quality of build, equipment, etc - IMO - over the 'production' cats. You pay for it with the 44i, but that is their market.

Interesting that you mentioned the Prout. A Prout was in Annapolis last year that had granite countertops in the salon and both heads. Not sure why in the hell that is a good idea on a cat....but hey, each to their own......

Wow I have never seen “Mast Roller furling main” on a Catamaran before.
I wonder why Antares 44i went with that design. Most catamaran sails are very heavy duty with full battens, because they can not lean over to relieve the gusting pressure on the sails.
I wonder if this my start a trend?

With a powered furling mast, it is even easier to set, reef and handle your mainsail (Optional $6,900)
Includes Rodkicker and mainsail with vertical battens. Vertical battens allow for a positive roach on the furling mainsail providing a combination of performance and convenience.
