What $190k Gets You: Updating a Lagoon 440

Some people just enjoy creating a car, boat, airplane to look the way they want it. Does it have to make economic sense when its not your money. Can't you just enjoy the end result?

Thanks for the kind words! And yeah - the Wynns are super cool people and when we were in the yard together having a beer with them to close out the day was always a highlight.

As for your journey... the one item I would stress is to buy a solid boat. I was lucky enough to pick up a boat that was in great condition and it allowed me to focus on these more out of the box projects.

We sailed this boat off and on for three years and during this time we didn't really do any upgrades - just maintenance. So the total we spent wouldn't have seen so much (to me at least) if I spread it out over three years. My thinking was - don't buy any electronics or tech stuff until you are close to leaving - then you'll have the latest and greatest for your trip.

I think it is the a normal Warn... maybe $250 or so? That switch position is just a killer though.... could have really hosed me up. The boat was in the up position and when the switch shorted out it started paying out line.... If it would have tried to pull the boat closer it probably would have jacked up the aluminum as the line is that Dyneema rated for a pretty good load....!
