[IRONIC - ON] Yep, very dangerous and unsafe boat that one. Dont know how it went solo non stop around Australia in record time (Bruce Arms 2011) [IRONIC OFF]

Mr Seaslug, do you ever have anything nice to say about any boat?

One wonders if Bruce Arms still owns her...The picture is certainly not of him - perhaps the new owner.

Unlikely waves were a significant contributor given location. Too much wind, for too much sail, with too little weight and evidently a rather strong rig.
I see she didn't sink!

Very sad for the owner.

No Bruce sold it. New owners.

We have noticed it moored over near Sandy Bay .

Pretty flat but very gusty in those conditions yesterday. WNW 20-30. Cold for us ,we had the heater going for most of the day. A few of the monos getting knocked around a little in the gusts on the moorings around us.

The same area claimed the catamaran Cynophobe a couple of years back.

And how it beat everyone else by 2 days when it won the 2010 Solo Trans Tasman - averaging 10 knots and hitting well over 22 at times.

Yep, just your typical cruising cat - they all flip all the time.

Yep, another typical cruising cat - Not!

"Cynophobe, Design #144, a 37' racing cat was designed in 2008 for a group of sailing enthusiasts based in Airlie Beach. The boat sailed very competitively in Central Queensland waters for several years and is now based in Tasmania."

It's been flipped on other occasions too.

Ha, that bit of coast is very gusty in those conditions. Its right under the lee of Mount Wellington(Kunanyi)and it can go from flat calm to 40 or more knots without a lot of warning as the gust blasts down the hill, especially if you cut the corner, and stay in close to the coast.

Friends of mine watched it all happen off the Brigantine Windeward Bound nearby. I'll have to quiz them on the exact conditions and place.

Big wave rider sure is an awesome boat, now thats a cat I would love to sail!

Re: Warning some may find this disturbing

Anyway, why would anyone find it disturbing? Haters gunna hate, those with some level of knowledge and skill know its a manageable scenario usually, and no one was hurt and the boat will live to sail again.

Well, I'm pretty impressed! That boat looks damn good for having been inverted. Was she under way when she flipped? If so, having t he rig survive is fantastic. Hope the water damage isn't too severe, and the the motor(s) are quickly serviced.
